Board of Directors
The Board of Directors (the Board) comprises an independent Chairman, an independent director and four non-executive directors. The non-executive directors all have either a direct or beneficial shareholder interest.
The Board has delegated responsibilities to four subcommittees that monitor Audit and Risk, Credit, IT and Remuneration. The Board and each Board subcommittee have their own charter and are charged with reporting and making recommendations to the Board. A formal and robust internal audit process complements the work carried out by the external auditors PricewaterhouseCoopers. Both the annual internal audit plan and the audit results are reviewed by the Audit and Risk Committee.
Lawrence Margrain – Chairman – Independent Director
Laurie brings a wealth of senior management and boardroom experience to Instant Finance having held a number of CEO roles with Masport Group and subsequently Skellerup Group both in Australia and New Zealand. He spent seven years as CEO and Managing Director of Criterion Group. Laurie has served on School Boards of Trustees, as Chairman of North Harbour Rugby and as a Director of the Blues Super Rugby Franchise.
He is currently Chairman of Open Country Dairy Ltd and Corporate Cabs Ltd, a Director of a number of private companies, is a Board member of the Employers and Manufacturers Association (Northern) Inc.
Robert Knox – JP – Chairman of Audit and Risk Committee – Independent Director
Robert is a retired chartered accountant and was the managing partner of the BDO Auckland office until his retirement in December 2006. His areas of practice included business advisory, valuations, insolvency and general taxation. Robert is currently Director of a number of private companies. He is the Chairman and Trustee of a number of charitable and private trusts.
Graeme Halse LLB (Hons)
Graeme is a founding partner of Epsom Law Firm, Foy & Halse. He is a trustee of many high value family trusts and provides advice to both private and corporate clients. He is a director of a number of small private companies. As a former Auckland rugby representative and member of the New Zealand Barbarians, Graeme is well known in sporting circles and also has interests in the bloodstock industry.
Roly Ellis
Originally from Dunedin, Roly has been involved with Instant Finance since 1995 and is a minority shareholder. He is a director of a number of companies in the investment, property and tourism areas. Previous roles include General Manager of Movements International and Regional Managing Director of Scotpac International / Crown Relocations. Roly is currently managing director of private investment company RAE Group.
Martyn Levy BA, LL.B, CMInstD
Martyn is a strategist and commercial advisor with experience in building and managing technology businesses, capital raising and divestment. Via Mila19, Martyn provides his international client base with strategic and commercial advice as well as execution capabilities for strategic business opportunities across telecommunications, technology, financial services and media sectors.
Prior to forming Mila19, Martyn was Head of Strategy & Business Development for 2degrees, and was previously CEO of RoamAD, a Wi-Fi start-up that he sold in 2009 to a US company. Martyn has also worked in the venture capital industry and as a banking & finance lawyer in Moscow and Auckland
Symon Nausbaum LLB. B.Com MBA
Symon has been involved with Instant Finance since 1992 and has been a Director of the Company since 2003. Symon has worked in corporate finance with PwC and BDO in New Zealand, and Morgan Stanley and Consignia in the United Kingdom. Symon has founded three companies including Nectar, an online digital consumer finance provider. Symon is an active early stage investor and has invested in a wide range of New Zealand start-ups.
